Meet the colleague: Tim Uitdewilligen

Geplaatst: 4 hours ago

The Belgian rental department of Heisterkamp is developing rapidly. Since 2022, Tim Uitdewilligen has been leading sales in Belgium. What started as a new market is steadily growing into a strong position. In this interview, Tim talks about his role, his motivation, and what drives him both professionally and personally.

Can you introduce yourself?
“My name is Tim Uitdewilligen, I am 27 years old. I started at Heisterkamp in April 2022 as Sales Manager Belgium. That was exactly the moment when the Belgian entity was established for trailer rental. So I have truly been involved from the very beginning in setting up and growing the rental department in Belgium.”

What does your role involve exactly?

“I am responsible for sales in Belgium. Because it was a new market, the focus was mainly on acquiring new customers. Some large European customers expanded with us into Belgium, but the majority were new relationships.
My role is a combination of account management and business development: approaching new customers, building relationships, and ensuring continued growth. By now, we are performing well and are clearly visible in the market. Since April 2025, we have also added an extra colleague for operational and service-oriented support. That helps a lot, especially because being locally present allows you to respond faster and stay closer to customers and suppliers.”

What tip would you give to a new colleague in your role?

“Approach companies in different ways and do not focus on just one contact person. Within organizations, decisions are often made by several people. It is important to build multiple relationships and not depend on just one point of entry.
In addition, I strongly believe in LinkedIn. It is a powerful channel to position yourself and the company. And don’t be afraid to simply walk into a company and introduce yourself. Sales requires patience. Sometimes you close a deal within a few weeks; sometimes it takes more than a year. Persistence pays off, as long as you remain visible and stay on the radar.”

"What I value about Heisterkamp is its family atmosphere, despite the size of the company. It truly makes me feel at home here."

What motivates you to go to work every day?
“It is certainly not the Antwerp ring road during rush hour. What motivates me is seeing growth. I experience the development of the Belgian department up close. Every step forward, every new customer and every expansion feels like a shared victory.
The ultimate goal is to become the leading player in Belgium. We are not there yet, but we are taking steps in the right direction every day. That gives me energy.”

And who is Tim outside of work?

“I have been playing table tennis for a long time and I do so competitively. In addition, I have been training seriously at the gym for about a year now, mainly because I live practically next door to a fitness center. At weekends, I enjoy spending time with my girlfriend, friends or family. A day at the seaside, going for a walk, or simply doing nothing at all. That last one is sometimes very necessary.”

In three words: how would you describe yourself?

“Persevering, sporty and helpful.”

What is the most surprising thing you have experienced at work?
“I once had a customer whose payments were not going very smoothly, so I arranged a visit to discuss a few things in person. When I arrived, I saw that one of our trailers had almost its entire upper structure dismantled. At first, I thought they were taking the trailer apart to sell the parts. In the end, it turned out to be major damage that they were repairing themselves.”

Who would you like to switch roles with for a day within Heisterkamp?
“With my colleague Stijn in Belgium, who mainly focuses on the operational side. I have a general idea of what he does, but I think it would be interesting to fully join him for a day and see what it takes to actually get trailers operational.”
