Robert Hegeman has been working at Heisterkamp for quite some time and knows the organisation inside out. Over the years, he has held various roles, from invoicing to fleet management, and has now been in sales for seven years. He started at Heisterkamp Transport and is currently working at Heisterkamp Trailer Rental, where he focuses on customer relations and further growth.
Could you briefly introduce yourself?
“My name is Robert Hegeman; I was born and raised in Geesteren and still live there. I am married and have two daughters, aged eight and eleven. I have now been working at Heisterkamp for 21 years, the last few of which have been in Trailer Rental.”
How has your career at Heisterkamp progressed?
“I started in Invoicing in 2005, after the company I was working for at the time was taken over. I then moved into Fleet Management via Facility Management. I subsequently moved into Sales within Transport and later to Trailer Rental. Through these various roles, I’ve really got to know Heisterkamp from the inside, and that helps me every day in my current role.”
What do you enjoy most about your work at Trailer Rental?
“Interacting with people and being able to offer them a solution. I enjoy getting to know new people and further developing existing relationships. I strongly believe in long-term collaboration based on trust. I also like a bit of healthy pressure: targets and figures are part of the job and give you an insight into your own contribution. This combination keeps the work interesting for me and makes me really look forward to going to work.”
"Genuine teamwork comes from trust, staying true to yourself and doing what you say you will."- Sales Manager
How important are colleagues and teamwork to you?
“That’s certainly important. You don’t have to be friends with everyone in your private life, but I think working well together and getting on normally with one another is essential. At Trailer Rental, you work more independently than you would at Transport, for example, but naturally, in a sales role, performance is assessed not only on an individual basis but also as a team.”
What lessons have you learnt in all your years at Heisterkamp?
“Just act normal that’s crazy enough. But above all, stand up for yourself and be open to discussing issues. Sharing things creates clarity and peace of mind. That helps not only in my work, but also in my private life.”
What do you like to do in your spare time?
“I enjoy doing sport, such as running and playing football now and then, and I also like going for a beer with my friends. I’m a member of the Sponsorship Committee at STEVO football club in Geesteren and also chair the Ervenloop Geesteren Foundation, through which we organise a running event in our village for young and old. I also regularly go to Ajax matches with my brother and enjoy pottering about in the garden. The latter is really a way for me to clear my head and enjoy being at home with my family.”

What advice would you give to a new colleague starting in your role?
“Take the time to really get to know the IT landscape. Within Heisterkamp it is quite complex because many systems are interconnected. Take notes, make things visual for yourself and ask focused questions. It takes time before you truly have a clear overview, but that is crucial to being able to do your job well.”
